A Pet loss support group at Companions Animal Hospital

The death of a beloved animal friend can be one of the most difficult moments we face as our pet’s human companion. No matter how much we may or may not be prepared, the loss hurts.

Many bereaved pet owners are surprised and confused to feel so devastated by the depth of their grief. Yet grief for the loss of this relationship is as genuine and deserving of comfort as is grief for the loss of human loved ones.

Fortunately, there are many people who understand your pain because they know about that special bond of being a pet owner. Your sorrow is as real to you as it would be for any other family member.

Pet grief is experienced in different ways. Sorrow and loss, difficult enough in themselves, are frequently followed by guilt, anger, denial, and depression. An individual or family may not know how to say goodbye to their departed pet and may feel trapped by their feelings. Some even hide their sorrow for fear of upsetting children who may also not know how to handle the loss.

Grief is normal. What is important is that we express it. Now there is help for the grieving pet owner.

With the professional guidance of Bonnie Stachowski, MSW, LGSW, Healing Hearts Pet Loss Support Group provides a caring and nurturing space in which to express the feelings of joy, pain and sorrow that are necessary for your individual healing process. Come once or as often as you need. All family members are welcome. We are here to help you come to peace at this difficult time.
