Don't think that behavior services is preventative medicine? Think again! Behavior problems are the leading cause of death in dogs under the age of 5 (due to euthansia) and the reason for many pets to be dropped off at humane societies or dumped and left to try to survive on their own. Good behavior counts! Whether it is a screeching bird, a cat peeing on your bed or a dog with destructive behavior we can help. The sooner we address the problem the better the chance for a diagnosis and treatment program that will help. We may not always be able to completely eliminate a problem but often we can reduce the severity or frequency of the problem. The following pages have some basic information for some issues, however, without a diagnosis you may be treating the wrong problem. Call for a behavior consult if your pet is having behavior problems that have lasted for more than 2 weeks. Don't forget, some behavior problems are actually medical problems! An exam is the first step.
