GENERAL STEPS YOU CAN TAKE TO PREVENT ZOONOTIC INFECTION
  • Give all dewormers as directed by your veterinarian
  • Have your pet's stool checked at least twice a year and anytime develops diarrhea
  • Keep your dog on a year-round parasite preventative such as Heartgard Plus
  • Wash your hands after handling your dog, their belongings and after cleaning up accidents
  • Always wear shoes when walking outside-especially dog parks, playgrounds, beaches, etc
  • Monitor your dog for any skin issues and consult your veterinarian as soon as any noted
  • If your dog is diagnosed with a zoonotic disease, and you develop symptoms consistent with that infection, contact your personal physician as soon as possible. Inform your physician of your pet's diagnosis

During 2011, 20 cases of Roundworms were diagnosed and 2 cases of Hookworms!
